After two long years, St. Patrick’s Day is back in Halifax! Covid-19 had forced bars to close and parade-goers to stay home rather than the usual green beer infused festivities.

This year though, all the classic St. Patrick’s Day hot spots have gotten the go-ahead to celebrate the patron Saint of Ireland this March 17th. Irish Haligonians (and those who wish they were Irish) may finally indulge properly in the food, beverage & music of the Irish culture.

March Break in my grade school years was awesome. All week my mom would keep us busy with baking days, board games, crafting and whatever else she could come up with. The pinnacle of our March Break was the Halifax Day trip. We’d take a MetroTransit bus then hop on the ferry, explore the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Pier 21 or the Discovery Centre and top the day off with a paper bag of goodies from Freak Lunch Box. The March Breaks of my childhood are now some of my best memories!
