Colour of the Year – Classic Blue

Pantone Colour Institute’s Colour of the Year is out and it oozes sophistication and power. “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” This colour emerges as a colour of stability. In a world with so much uncertainty, this colour will provide us with a sense of calmness we all need.

Classic Blue is the colour of the year and I want to put it everywhere, including my wardrobe. This blue is so versatile you could use it in any space in your home; from your bathroom to the kitchen, it all depends on you!

Let’s bring it back to the basics of colour with the colour wheel we all became familiar with in pre-k.  You have your basic primary colours, red, yellow, and blue. Then you move on to the secondary colours where you will find the colours created by two primary colours such as orange, violet or green. With the classic blue being a shade of one of the primary colours, you will be able to pair it with SO MUCH! Mixing this classic blue with a yellow gold will give you an edgy, sleek look or you can go with the complete opposite, pairing it with rose gold and greys for a soft romantic look. The possibilities are endless.

Did you know that Sir Isaac Newton created the world’s very first colour wheel? While preforming an experiment with a prism, he discovered that pure white light contains the full spectrum of colours. You can thank me later for this little tidbit of info the next time you’re watching Jeopardy and this exact subject comes up ;P

For over 20 years, Pantone has been coming out with the colour of the year and stirring all kinds of feeling for a colour. Their colour choices help to influence home furnishings, interior design and even fashion. I can’t wait to see what IKEA comes up with to incorporate this exciting colour. You can check out the previous colours of the year on their website. You can also discover how they come up with their choices every year.

Wherever this colour takes you, we want to see it! If you have decided to incorporate this colour into your life, drop a picture in an email and send it to us at lyndsay.hart@c21.ca. We will add it to our post!

Thanks for dropping by!
