About Eastern Passage
Eastern Passage lies on the southeastern edge of the Halifax Harbour on the Dartmouth side along the Atlantic Ocean. There is a small military base located in this area, CFB Shearwater. It was also home to two oil refineries (Imperial Oil & Ultramar) and the Volvo Assembly Plant but they have since shut down. The economy is slowly building back up since the close of the refineries and auto plant. In response to the slowing economy, there was a redevelopment started as a small craft harbour known by "the Cove" and later renamed Fisherman's Cove in 1996. Fisherman's Cove has now become a tourist attraction that combines a working fishing harbour with gift shops and restaurants. There is a beautiful boardwalk along the water and has become a fast family favourite. A definite "must see"!
The total population of this area is over 13,000 with several parks and playgrounds around. There is also a skate park located near the Seaside Elementary school. A large playing field at the Eastern Passage Education Centre is great for sporting events in the area. There are also numerous baseball fields within the vicinity of three elementary schools. The Tallahassee Recreation Centre offers fitness programs as well as a tennis court. Every year, Eastern Passage hosts their own Summer Carnival, a weeklong celebration with fun, local activities including fireworks and a parade!
The houses in this area are mostly serviced by municipal water but some of the outer lying areas require septic systems and wells. You will find a mix of single family and townhouse homes at a very reasonable price.
