Fairview is located on the western edge of Halifax and neighbouring communities include Clayton Park, Armdale and Westmount. Originally settled by the English and later by the Germans the area was first called "the Dutch Village". To this day, a main artery in Fairview is Dutch Village Road. This area was rich with stable agriculture until the early 1900's. The street layout in Fairview is laid in a grid-like pattern thanks to post war housing developments. Fairview is diverse in history and is on the rise.  

Fairview homes range from single family homes to high-rise apartments and condos, with the older homes having styles reminiscent of the 1950's-1960's. The popular cape cod and bungalow styles still adorn the streets. However, there is new development in the area, while still being able to maintain green spaces. The community association puts on a tree lighting ceremony every holiday season at Titus Park.
