Welcome to Halifax, Nova Scotia! Our province in a vibrant, beautiful destination for business travel. As Halifax locals, we're happy to share the best restaurants, cafés and activities to make the most of your stay.
Halifax 101
Downtown Halifax
Downtown Halifax is where most visitors spend their time, and likely where your conference or meetings will take place. This is the heart of the city, packed with restaurants, pubs, historic buildings, and the iconic waterfront. It's extremely walkable, with most hotels, the Halifax Convention Centre, and the Halifax Waterfront all within a 10-15 minute stroll. Expect a mix of business energy during the day and lively patios at night. If you're staying downtown, you won't need a care for most of your trip.
north end Halifax
The North End is Halifax’s trendiest neighbourhood. Think independent coffee shops, craft breweries, cool boutiques, and some of the city’s best food. Once industrial, it’s now the cultural heartbeat of the city and a favourite among young professionals and creatives. Agricola Street and Gottingen Street are the main corridors to explore. It’s about a 5–10 minute drive (or a longer but pleasant walk) from downtown. If you’re looking for where locals actually hang out, this is it.
South End Halifax
The South End feels more classic and residential, with beautiful historic homes, tree-lined streets, and strong university influence thanks to Dalhousie University and Saint Mary's University. You’ll also find Point Pleasant Park here - a stunning oceanside park that’s perfect for a morning walk or sunset view. It’s quieter than downtown but still very close (5–10 minutes by car). If you want a peaceful escape without leaving the city, head south.
Downtown dartmouth (Across the Harbour)
Just across the water from Halifax is Dartmouth - and yes, it’s absolutely worth the short ferry ride. Downtown Dartmouth has exploded in popularity with fantastic restaurants, waterfront views, and a slightly more laid-back vibe. The ferry ride itself is only about 15 minutes and offers one of the best skyline views in the region. If you have an extra afternoon, this is your move.
