I’ll start this off with what every blog starts with in 2020……. Things are a little different this year but don’t let that get you down…. Or, in these unprecedented times….. you know, all that stuff!

Here’s the thing. It’s true. But it’s almost as if I’m used to it now; operative word being “almost”. I don't know about you, but I'm just going to go with the flow and PIVOT (insert Ross’ voice from Friends) from our norm. Here are some ideas to do with the kiddo’s in the days leading up to the big fat man’s appearance.

Nova Scotia's Heritage Day – 2020 – Africville

 

The third Monday of February each year brings us our Provincial Heritage Day. This day is our annual reminder to bring people together to honour the remarkable people, events and places in Nova Scotia’s History. This year’s Heritage Day recognizes Africville. This day also happens to fall on the 10th Anniversary of the apology to Africville. Africville holds great significance to our African Nova Scotian Community.

This day will bring light to the tragic story of displacement of and discrimination against the people of Africville. It will also bring light to the incredible sense of community, pride and heritage that the former residents of Africville still share to this day.  This pride and…
