Ah, September. The suns setting earlier, kids are heading back to school, and the temperatures are cooling. This past summer has been quite a busy one here in Halifax. So many great festivals and events made their long-awaited return, and lots of new festivals also popped up around the city!
Even though we're all making the shift back to more regular routines, getting out to spend quality time with your community don't have to end. There's still lots of great festivals and events planned over the next few weeks, keep reading for all the details!
Halifax Urban Folk Festival
Halifax Urban Folk Festival (HUFF) is an annual festival celebrating music and those who make it. From August 28th to September 4th, live shows will take place at The Carleton, Brightwood Brewing, New Scotland Brewing, and the Grand Oasis Stage in Grand Parade. Live Music on Agricola
Head to North End Halifax any (or every!) Friday night during September for a live, outdoor musical performance! Performances will take place every Friday until October from 6pm to 8pm, in the Carlo Auto Service parking lot at 2537 Agricola Street.
Get Lost in A Sunflower Field
Surround yourself with bright yellow sunflowers and happy bees at work at Dakeyne Farm's 10th Annual sunflower maze! Stroll through the blooms, fly a kit (available to rent or bring your own!) and maybe meet a butterfly or two.
The farm's located in Falmouth, about an hour from Downtown Halifax. As long as weather permits, they'll be open daily from 10am-7pm. Book an appointment to ensure admission to the farm by emailing sunflowers@dakeynefarm.com. Admission prices can be found here.
World Sailing Championships
See some the world’s best sailors in action right here in St. Margaret’s Bay! For the first time ever, the 2022 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Sailing Championships are coming to Canada. The competition will take place from August 31st-September 5th. Races can be viewed from Hubbards Beach, Queensland Beach, or Fox Point Beach!
Mosaic Music Festival
Explore the many diverse cultures that make up our community at the 2022 Mosaic Music Festival! Starting with a parade through Downtown Halifax, a showcase of cultural music and dance performances will take place on the Halifax Waterfront on September 3rd.
Fire & Water Festival
Alderney Landing's Fire & Water Festival is September 9th and 10th! This festival is another exciting celebration of Nova Scotia's cultural diversity. Music and dance performances, delicious food, art and even fire performances will all be at the event!
One Port City Day
Port of Halifax is celebrating the port and the surrounding area with the first ever One Port City Day! On September 10th, from 10am-4pm, head down to the Halifax Seaport for a day of fun for all ages. Free bouncy castles, cotton candy and face painting will be offered, take in boat shows and exhibits from port partners, tour the Port of Innovation, Engagement and Research (PIER), and more!
Atlantic International Film Festival
Immerse yourself in the art of cinema during the Atlantic International Film Festival, September 15th to 22nd. Join film makers and fans alike for film screenings, Panel, Q&As and more! Purchase tickets and view the festival program here.
Maritime Race Weekend
Dig out your running shoes and pirate hat - Maritime Race Weekend is September 16th and 17th! Run or walk along Eastern Passage's beautiful shoreline during this annual pirate themed event! Wear your best pirate outfit, see local bands, and enjoy the view! Register for the race here.
Open Street Sunday
Open Street is coming to Halifax in September! Three streets in Downtown Halifax will be closed to vehicular traffic and open to the community to enjoy live music, games & activities, artisan markets and more! Take a stroll along Agricola Street, Spring Garden Road and/or Argyle Street from 12pm-4pm on September 18th to get in on all the action!

Hopscotch Arts Festival
The Hopscotch Arts Festival is the Maritime's biggest Hip Hop festival! Celebrate art, music and dance with live performances, mural painting, a community cookout and more over the four day festival, from September 23rd to 26th. View the full schedule of events here.
Halifax Oyster Festival
Taste the best of Nova Scotia at Halifax Oyster Festival, September 23rd to 24th on the Halifax Waterfront. Sample countless oysters, indulge in the best of Nova Scotia's wine, beer, spirits and cider, meet and learn from local farmers and get a photo with the festival's infamous mascot, Pearl!
Prismatic Arts Festival
The Prismatic Arts Festival is an annual festival which showcases Indigenous artists and artists of colour from across the country through performances, workshops and Masterclasses. From theatre, to dance, to visual arts, to spoken word, there's something for everyone to enjoy! The festival will take place September 22nd to October 9th at multiple venues throughout Downtown Halifax, buy your tickets here!
